S-Rating (Sustainability Rating) is a mandatory sustainability assessment used across all the brands within the Volkswagen Group worldwide. It assess how suppliers manage environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risks and meet required standards, directly influencing sourcing decisions and business eligibility.

A valid (positive) S-Rating is a mandatory prerequisite for all suppliers associated with relevant procurement volumes.

The primary assessment instruments are the Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) and on-site audits, which typically focus on the production/service facility or the location where the final value-added process is performed. For procurement volumes involving critical raw materials, additional specific requirements may apply.
